Hit the brakes?
In the past I have written musings about the way time seems to speed up as we get older. That idea crossed my mind again the other day. As I thought about it, I thought about Toyota vehicles and the problems they are having. How do I connect the two? Consider the following.
Toyota has been dealing with the unexpected acceleration problem. It seems to me that we seniors are dealing with a similar problem. We are journeying down life's highway travelling at a comfortable speed. All of a sudden time seems to speed up becoming uncontrollable. We try hitting the brakes but to no avail. We have no brake override and the remainder of our trip though life unfolds at breakneck speeds. We only stop when we crash, when we reach the end of our lives.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we did have a brake override feature that would allow us to slow things down when things seem to be rushing wildly into the future? Why didn't evolution create such a capability in us? Where was Darwin when we needed him? I'm sure cavemen had the same problem. Life in general has been around for millions of years. You would think that it would have had sufficient time to come up with something. Even Detroit can do better than that with cars.
But life is what it is. Perhaps the problem is no more than our perception of time. Maybe it is just that we think things are speeding up because the journey is just about over and we don't want it it end. Attribute it to what you will; I still think somebody missed a chance to develop that override option for us when we were born.
