A significant birth
In the grand order of this world it probably is considered trivial. In the grand scheme of the universe it probably is insignificant. Yet in the smaller world, smaller universe of family and friends it was significant event and of great importance. For in the late evening of January 27th, 2010 Lincoln Knox was born. His arrival was a moment anticipated for nine months by his parents as well as his parents' families and friends.
For a few months no one was even sure if he would be a he or a she. But thanks to the great strides in medical science, long before he arrived his parents knew they had to decide on the name for a boy. And what a first and middle name. His first name is the same as the last name of our 16th president - a strong and determined man. His middle name is the same as the last name of that illustrious general who served under General Washington later was appointed by Washington to be our first Secretary of War. Both men were battle tested but yet wise and caring. So it is hoped for Lincoln Knox that he too grows into a man who can be strong and determined but yet wise and caring.
So much is said about what the future holds for the young children of today. Some paint pictures of doom and gloom while others see a bright day over the horizon. The real truth is that no one really knows, and those who predict the future will not be around to witness it. How Lincoln Knox's journey through life goes is anyone's guess. How successful he will be is unknown. I think we all can assure him there will be days of great joy and days of great sorrow. How he navigates those times will be in his hands. All that can be said with certainly is that he starts life surrounded with love and caring. He will be nurtured, watched over and guided until such time as he takes command of his life.
But whatever the future holds, whatever he might accomplish, he has, without knowing, turned a man and a woman into parents and turned other members in his family into grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. Quite a feat. Most importantly, he has, like all just-born babies, brought much joy and happiness to his parents and to all in his family.
We wish you a safe and happy journey, Lincoln Knox.
